Lance Armstong Speaks with Tony Kornheiser

by sethn on March 19, 2010

Drivers & cyclists need to coexist, period. That’s the message Lance Armstong relayed to radio personality & journalist Tony Kornheiser today.

Earlier in the week, Kornheiser joked that cyclists should be “ran down.” He has since apologized for his remarks against cyclists.

As Lance put it, “neither one of us is going anywhere.” Riders and drivers need to get along.  He added that cyclists need to workin on building awareness of both cycling etiquette and how to share the road.

Lance also shared an interesting statistic. Forty years ago, 40% of kids rode bikes to school; today 3% of children ride their bikes to school. There are a lot of reasons for this, but Lance speculated the major reason is that parents are concerned with the safety of their children.

The cycling world is lucky to have such a strong celebrity athlete to share our side of the story!
