My own journey started in 2006. I moved to Arizona fr0m Oregon with my wife of six years in February; by April we were separated. I was depressed. I was in a foreign place without a solid support system. I was about 30 pounds overweight when I finally hit rock bottom.
I was miserable.
A few months later, I met Sarah, who introduced me to triathlon. I conquered a lifelong fear of open water and learned how to swim, and finished my first race in the fall. The pounds were melting off, my confidence was restored, and the sport introduced me to a network of fun, supportive people.
Triathlon became our new lifestyle. We were married in 2008. Five years after I entered the sport, we’re both still training and racing. And as coaches, we want to get others involved in the sport too.
