Ryan Hall – Boston Marathon 2010 from Pete Larson on Vimeo.
Here’s a great slow-motion shot of Ryan Hall, who finished fourth at Boston this year, and recorded the fastest time ever by an American. Hall’s 2:08:41 beat the 2:08:47 time set by Bob Kempainen in 1994.
The video shows some of what makes Hall such a successful distance runner. While he is a midfoot striker with a fairly long stride, there is no denying that he generates a ton of spring from that stride.
In addition to having enviable loading skills, his overall body position is fantastic, his forward lean helps propel him along, and his arm and chest positioning is properly aligned. There is no wasted movement; virtually everything Hall does is translated into speed.
What do you notice about Hall’s form?
